Invest in Environmental Technologies

What are environmental technologies?

Environmental technologies help to protect and improve our environment. For example, they help us to produce less waste, use energy more efficiently and keep the air and water clean. Here are some examples of environmental technologies:

  • Solar energy is a clean and renewable energy source. It uses the sun's energy to generate electricity. Solar cells installed on the roofs of houses absorb this radiation and convert it into electrical energy. This energy can then be used to power electrical appliances in the home or even fed into the public power grid.

  • Wind energy uses the wind to generate electricity. Large wind turbines, which are often installed in windy areas such as coastal areas or open plains, turn in the wind and generate electrical energy. This energy can then be fed into the electricity grid or used locally. Large wind turbines are often installed in windy areas to harness this energy source.

  • Water treatment technologies purify contaminated water. They can help to remove pollutants from water, making it safe for human consumption. The purified water can then be returned to the environment - for example to rivers or lakes. In this way, harmful effects on the animal and plant world can be reduced.

  • Recycling is the process of collecting waste materials and transforming them into new products. This can help to reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill. At the same time, valuable resources are conserved. Examples of recycling processes include melting down glass or metal to make new products or shredding paper to produce recycled paper.

Environmental stocks: a good time to invest?

The sharp rise in interest rates is weighing more heavily on shares from the environmental and renewable energy sectors than on securities from other sectors. Clemens Klein, fund manager of ERSTE WWF STOCK ENVIRONMENT, explains in an interview why this is the case, why environmental stocks remain attractive and why this could even be a good time to invest.

Investing sustainably: Fad or long-term trend?

One thing is beyond debate: sustainable investing has long since become socially acceptable and has long since shed its initially slightly alternative image. In the past five years alone, the volume of sustainable retail and special funds in Austria has more than quadrupled. What are the five drivers of sustainable investing?

Investing in environmental technologies

Environmental technologies are designed to protect our planet for future generations. It is important that we all do our part to protect the environment by using and supporting these technologies. The companies held in the following funds make a significant contribution to this every year.

The increasing demand for solutions in these areas due to environmental problems such as water scarcity, rising waste volumes and the need for alternative energies is driving the growth of these companies. The cooperation between Erste Asset Management and WWF enables a sustainable investment strategy, supported by an environmental advisory board of WWF. Please note that investing in securities entails risks as well as opportunities.

ERSTE GREEN INVEST

With ERSTE GREEN INVEST, you are choosing a fund that invests worldwide in companies in the environmental technology sector. The focus is on following areas: Renewable energy is to be expanded and energy efficiency increased. The protection of water is essential for a secure supply. The fund therefore focuses on water treatment and supply. The recovery of resources through recycling and the disposal, collection and reuse of waste is intended to reduce the volume of waste.

In order to make the economy sustainable, it is important to change traditional energy and environmentally intensive industries. Investments are therefore being made in pioneering transformation companies in order to make the environmentally harmful processes of the "old economy" more sustainable. The increasing number of natural disasters requires adaptation to the already unavoidable consequences of climate change. Please note that investing in securities entails risks in addition to the opportunities described above.

ERSTE GREEN INVEST MIX

ERSTE GREEN INVEST MIX is a mixed fund consisting of equities and bonds . The shares are selected in the same way as the ERSTE GREEN INVEST equity fund . The focus is on energy, water and recycling as well as green transformation and adaptation of the economy. Why are the last two topics in particular important? In order to make the economy sustainable, traditionally energy and environmentally intensive sectors in particular need to change. The fund therefore invests in companies that are among the pioneers when it comes to making the environmentally harmful processes of the “old economy” more sustainable.

A measurable positive impact on the environment and society is also at the forefront of the investment decision in the bond part of the fund. To this end, investments are made in green bonds issued by governments, government-related and supranational issuers and companies. The proceeds of these green bonds are used by the respective issuer to finance environmental and climate protection projects. The fund has been upgraded to an Article 9 product, making it a pure impact mixed fund - one of the first of its kind in the German-speaking world.
